Cooperation between cross-border structures and education and research sector being enhanced within BEN-East project

International seminar "Role of educational and research organizations in cross-border cooperation" took place in Minsk - Belovezhskaya Puscha on 27-30 May. The seminar was organized by Nordic Council of Ministers Information Office in Saint-Petersburg, local ecological foundation "Euroregion "Belovezhskaya Puscha" and Center for international research of Belorussian State University (BSU).

Among the participants there were representatives of BEN-East project network, universities and other educational institutions of North-West Russia and Republic of Belarus, as well as experts from the countries of the European Union.

The first part of the event was held in the Polish town of Belovezha, where Round Table with representatives of the local government and study-trip to a farm was organized. The participants of the Round Table got the opportunity to listen to the Head of Belovezha's local administration, Head of the Polish bureau of "Euroregion "Belovezhskaya Puscha" and coordinator of an INTERREG III A project devoted to development of tourism infrastructure in the Euroregion, educating specialists and creation of bicycle routes on the territory of Belovezhskaya Puscha.

The second part was held in Minsk in the premises of "Viktoria" hotel and consisted of three sessions devoted to educational structures' activities in the field of cross-border cooperation.

The seminar was opened by welcoming speeches made by representatives of Latvian, Lithuanian and Russian Embassies in the Republic of Belarus as well as representatives of Presidential Administration and Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Belarus. In the frames of the first session, devoted to cross-border cooperation in education, researches from Saint-Petersburg and Belorussian State Universities and Russian Academy of Science presented their ideas on the subject. During the second session professors from BSU reported about research in the sphere of social-economic aspects of CBC. The academic part was concluded by presentations of contemporary education programmes and scientific projects prepared by representatives of universities from North-West Russia.

The seminar was held after passing official registration in the Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Belarus.
