On May, 6-7, 2009 representatives of BEN-East partners’ network took part in the seminar “Development of cross-border cooperation in the Baltic Sea region by the example of Lithuania”. The event was organized in Vilnius by the local Nordic Council of Ministers Office, the only project partner representing the European Union. It was the last event held in the frames of BEN-East project that officially ended on May, 9.
Regional policy in Lithuania, cross-border cooperation and Lithuanian Euroregions, ENPI programmes and other financial instruments aimed at development of relations between neighbouring countries were the main topics for discussion. A special attention was given to the overview of events held in Vilnius as European Capital of Culture 2009.
The seminar was accompanied by a study-visit to Sakiai border district, a part of the Euroregion “Sesupe”, which in 2003 united border territories of Lithuania, Poland and Russia.
